PETKIT EVERSWEET MAX Cordless Cat Water Fountain, 3 L product format referenced in this guide

Can you put ice in a cat water fountain? PetSafe’s Drinkwell manuals say yes, and they say where: add ice cubes to the bowl. For PETKIT, Gardner Pet, and Catit fountains, the PETKIT and Catit manuals and the Gardner Pet listing we read do not mention ice. Follow the booklet that shipped with the fountain you have. No manual in this set says that ice harms a pump.

This page is based on manuals and one cleaning sheet read on Oct 28, 2026. Across those documents, PetSafe’s bowl line is the only direct instruction about ice. Other temperature lines are quoted below as written.

The three fountains on this site are the MAX Cordless, the 3 Pro, and the Gardner Pet Cordless. For each, the ice cell is the whole finding: the manual or listing we read does not mention ice. PetSafe, Catit, and the MAX 2 sheet are not products on this site. The MAX 2 sheet is a newer model than the site’s MAX Cordless. Its hot-water line is not a CT-W3 instruction.

Where PetSafe tells you to put the ice cubes

The Drinkwell Original manual puts this under General Tips: “Add ice cubes to the bowl for refreshing, ice-cold running water.”

The Avalon manual prints the same sentence. The UK Platinum manual and the 360 Stainless manual print the same line.

The ice goes in the bowl. Those copies do not name a cube count. The words “refreshing, ice-cold running water” are PetSafe’s. This page does not add a claim about whether an animal prefers that water.

Temperature limits other manuals do print

The Original and Avalon safety sections both say: “Do not install or store appliance where it will be exposed to weather or temperatures below 40° F.” That line is about where you install or store the appliance.

The Catit Flower Fountain manual says: “This pump is suitable for use in water temperatures up to 35°C.” The same manual says: “Do not install or store the appliance where it will be exposed to temperatures below freezing.” It also says: “Do not allow the pump to run dry. The pump must be immersed in water completely.” Ice is not mentioned.

The PETKIT EVERSWEET MAX 2 (Cordless) cleaning sheet says: “Do not rinse the filter or foam filter with hot water.” It also describes a deep-clean step that fills the tank with boiling water (176–212°F), runs 5–10 minutes, then has you pour that water out. That step is on the MAX 2 sheet only. It is not an ice instruction, and the CT-W3 manual does not print it. For the site’s MAX Cordless and the 3 Pro, the manual we read does not mention ice.

Marked water level still applies when ice melts

Avalon step 16: “Do not let the water level fall below 1 inch from the base of the bowl or you may risk pump failure.” Catit says not to let the pump run dry, and that the pump must be immersed completely.

Neither manual says how ice affects the water level. Refill to the line with water rather than counting on cubes, then check the mark after the cubes go in and again once they have melted. This is about the water level, not a finding that ice damages a pump.

The Original manual still says never to plug the fountain in without water filled to the appropriate level. Filter soak steps are a different schedule. See how often to change a PETKIT fountain filter. Room placement is in where to put a cat water fountain.

Manuals read for this ice-cube page

In short: the Drinkwell Original, Avalon, Platinum, and 360 manuals read on Oct 28, 2026 say to put ice cubes in the bowl. On the MAX Cordless manual, the 3 Pro manual, the Gardner Pet Cordless listing, and the Catit Flower Fountain manual, the source we read does not mention ice. The MAX 2 sheet does not mention ice either.

Follow the manual for the unit you have. Power, flow, and materials are in how to choose a cat water fountain.

FAQ

Which Drinkwell manuals tell you to add ice cubes?

The Drinkwell Original manual and the Drinkwell Avalon Ceramic manual both print: “Add ice cubes to the bowl for refreshing, ice-cold running water.” The UK Platinum and 360 Stainless manuals print the same sentence. In each case the ice goes in the bowl.

Does the EVERSWEET MAX Cordless manual mention ice?

The manual we read does not mention ice. That booklet is the CT-W3 user manual for the PETKIT EVERSWEET MAX Cordless. The EverSweet 3 Pro manual we read, and the Gardner Pet Cordless sources we read, also do not mention ice. Follow the booklet that came with the fountain you own.

What water-temperature limit does the Catit Flower Fountain pump manual print?

The Catit Flower Fountain manual says: “This pump is suitable for use in water temperatures up to 35°C.” The same caution block says not to let the pump run dry and that the pump must be immersed completely. The manual we read does not mention ice.

What does PetSafe print about temperatures below 40° F?

The Original and Avalon manuals both say: “Do not install or store appliance where it will be exposed to weather or temperatures below 40° F.” That line is about where you install or store the appliance. It is not an instruction about ice cubes in the bowl. The ice-cube line is a separate tip, and it names the bowl.

What does the Avalon manual say if the water level falls?

Avalon step 16 says to add water to the bowl as needed and: “Do not let the water level fall below 1 inch from the base of the bowl or you may risk pump failure.” The Catit Flower Fountain manual says not to allow the pump to run dry. The mark is worth checking after the cubes go in and again after they melt. These lines are about the water level, not a claim that ice harms a pump.
