Quick answer
The Gardner Pet Cordless Cat Water Fountain fits homes that want a 3.8 L fountain away from an outlet and can accept sensor-only flow on the built-in rechargeable battery, since continuous flow needs the cable. Its real selling point is placement: according to the Amazon listing, you can put it in a bedroom, on a balcony, or on a countertop without running a cord.
The key limitation is in the listing’s own note: in cordless mode, only sensor mode is available. Off the cable, water flows when the sensor detects a pet, not continuously. Continuous flow is available only while the fountain is plugged in. If your cat prefers water that is always moving, that matters.
We have not tested this fountain. The listing offers a 5-filter bundle and a 10-filter bundle; check the live listing for current prices. The model was first available on Amazon on October 5, 2026, so there is still very little ownership history.
What this fountain is
- Capacity: 3.8 L / 134 oz.
- Power: built-in 5,000 mAh lithium-ion battery, charged by USB-C (cable included).
- Modes: sensor or continuous when plugged in; sensor only when running on battery.
- Drinking surface: a stainless steel tray. The brand’s listing images describe it as 304 stainless steel.
- Filtration: a layered circulating filter, with monthly replacement recommended.
- Listed size: 11 x 9.8 x 6.7 inches, about 2 pounds.
The listing’s box contents are one fountain, one charging cable, filters, and an instruction manual. Its “included components” line names a “master control module,” and the listing’s directions refer to a “battery module” that must not go in water. That points to the electronics sitting in one unit, separate from the parts you wash. We have not handled the fountain to confirm how it detaches.
Cordless freedom, with a catch
Most cat fountains need a cord to an outlet, and the cord limits where they go. A battery fountain removes that limit, which can help if your cat drinks in a spot far from any outlet, or if a cable across the floor attracts chewing or tripping.
The trade-off is the sensor-only rule. When the fountain runs on its battery, the pump starts when a pet comes close rather than running all the time. That helps battery life, but it changes the experience for the cat. Some cats are drawn to constantly moving water. Others may be put off when flow starts suddenly as they approach. You can still plug the fountain in for continuous flow, but then you have a cord again.
That sensor-only rule also explains a common “my fountain stopped working” moment: on battery, still water between visits is normal. If the pump stays silent even when a pet is close or the fountain is plugged in, our cat water fountain not pumping water checklist covers the power, airlock, and pump-cleaning checks.
The battery claims, read carefully
The listing says the battery “can be used for over 30 days” and can keep water fresh “for 12–15 days.” These are the seller’s figures. We have not measured them, and real battery life will depend on how often the sensor triggers. More pets and more visits mean more pump time.
Treat the two numbers as separate claims. Battery life describes the pump. Water freshness depends on dust, hair, food debris, and room temperature. Even if the battery lasts a month, plan to empty, clean, and refill the fountain on a regular schedule rather than waiting for the battery to run down.
The listing also says the fountain can keep running during a power outage because it has a battery. That is a genuine advantage over plug-in fountains, but only if you keep it charged.
Filters: check what is in the box
The listing is not consistent about filters. The variant names say “1 Fountain with 5 Filters” (B0H392WP8Z) and “1 Fountain with 10 Filters” (B0H38SKYQ1), and one bullet mentions “additional 5 filters.” The packing-list line says “three filters.” We cannot resolve this from the listing. Check the current listing or ask the seller before buying, especially if you are choosing between bundles for the extra filters.
Whatever the count, the listing recommends replacing the filter monthly. Replacement filters are an ongoing cost, and the brand says they are sold separately in its store.
For a different brand’s published cadence—PETKIT EverSweet Filter Unit 3.0 at about 60 days in smart mode or 30 days in normal mode—see how often to change a PETKIT fountain filter.
Cleaning and setup
The listing says the fountain can be assembled and taken apart “in just a few minutes.” Its directions section adds three specific rules, as of Oct 20, 2026:
- The battery module cannot be immersed in water. Separate it, or keep it well away from the sink, before rinsing the tank, tray, and filter housing.
- Prepare each new filter: soak it for 5 minutes before use, then rinse it for 30 seconds.
- Store the pump in a dry place when the fountain is not in use.
The stainless tray should be easier to scrub than textured plastic, but the pump area, tank, and filter housing still need regular cleaning. Gardner Pet does not publish a cleaning schedule for this model. Its Vortex listing suggests weekly cleaning and monthly filter changes, which is a sensible starting point here too. Recharging is a natural moment to do it, because the electronics are already out of the way.
One practical point: a full clean means the pump stops until you reassemble it, so keep a bowl of water out while parts dry. We have not seen the printed manual, so follow it wherever it adds detail. Our how to clean a cat water fountain guide sets out a weekly routine and compares Gardner Pet’s published rules with PETKIT’s.
How it compares with Gardner Pet’s Vortex fountain
Gardner Pet’s 1-gallon Vortex fountain holds about the same amount (3.78 L). The difference is power. The Vortex runs continuously from a USB cable, does not include a wall adapter, and has no battery. It also uses a polypropylene body with a dual-dome tray rather than a stainless tray.
In short:
- Cordless model: pay more for placement freedom and outage tolerance; accept sensor-only flow off the cord.
- Vortex: pay less for continuous flow; accept the cable and supply your own adapter.
See our cordless vs Vortex comparison for the full decision. On Oct 19, 2026, the Vortex listing showed it as currently unavailable.
If you are also looking at PETKIT, note that its EverSweet “wireless” fountains still plug in: the wireless part is the pump. Our Gardner Pet fountain vs PETKIT EverSweet comparison covers this model against the EverSweet Solo SE and 3 Pro on power, flow modes, steel parts, and filters.
Who it suits
- The cat’s preferred drinking spot is far from an outlet.
- A trailing cord is a hazard or a chewing target.
- You want water available during short power cuts.
- You will recharge it as part of a routine.
Who should skip it
- Your cat only drinks from water that flows continuously, and the fountain would have to run cordless.
- You want a model with a long, established review history. This listing is new.
Limitations to keep visible
Pet Product Compass has not tested battery life, sensor range, pump noise, filtration quality, or leak resistance. The battery-life figures are the seller’s claims. The listing’s filter count is inconsistent. No official Gardner Pet website was reachable during our research, so facts come only from the Amazon listing, first checked October 11, 2026 and rechecked Oct 20, 2026.
Verdict
The Gardner Pet Cordless Cat Water Fountain is worth considering when placement is the real problem and sensor-activated flow on battery is acceptable. If an outlet is close by and continuous flow matters more, the Vortex is the more direct fit when it is in stock. Amazon showed it as currently unavailable on Oct 20, 2026, so the PETKIT EverSweet Solo SE in our Gardner vs PETKIT comparison is the closer plug-in alternative for now.
