Can You Put Wet Food in an Automatic Cat Feeder?

Can you put wet food in an automatic cat feeder? PETKIT manuals say dry pet food only. Tray feeders with ice packs are the format built for wet food.

PETKIT YumShare Solo with Camera product format referenced in this guide

Can you put wet food in an automatic cat feeder? Not in the hopper-style dry feeders whose manuals we read. The PETKIT YumShare Solo with Camera and YumShare Dual-hopper 2 booklets say dry pet food only, with dry kibble at or under 12 mm and freeze-dried pieces at or under 9 mm. Feeders meant for wet food, where these documents show one, are a different design: a tray of bowls kept cold with ice packs.

This page is based on manuals, a PETKIT feeder FAQ sheet, and listings read on Oct 28, 2026. Facts from existing product records keep those records’ check dates. The instructions below are quoted as printed, not ranked.

What the PETKIT hopper manuals say about food

The YumShare Solo with Camera manual (D4H) prints: “Recommended kibble size of dry food ≤12mm (0.47in) Recommended kibble size of freeze-dried food ≤9mm (0.35in).”

The precautions say to put nothing but dry pet food in the food storage container, or the device will not function properly and it may even endanger the pet. In plain terms, the storage container is for dry pet food only.

The YumShare Dual-hopper 2 manual repeats that sentence. Its size line is “Recommended kibble size: ≤12mm (0.47in)” and “Recommended freeze-dried food size: ≤9mm (0.35in).” The parts list names a “Stainless Steel Food Bowl,” and materials are “ABS, 304 Stainless Steel.” Two hoppers still hold dry food. The manual says two different pet foods can go in hopper 01 and hopper 02, inside those size limits.

A PETKIT feeder FAQ sheet says: “Please make sure the food in the tank is dry, and dry food size is within 12 mm in diameter; freeze-dried kibble within 9mm in diameter.”

Fresh Element Solo’s site record, last checked July 17, 2026, says “Dry food only, with documented kibble-size limits” and “Dry food; documented maximum kibble size 12 mm.” It does not add a freeze-dried line. None of these three manuals, in the copies read on Oct 28, 2026, describe an ice pack or a tray of wet meals.

How the Cat Mate C500 wet-food feeder is built

Feeders built for wet food come with different instructions. The example here is the Cat Mate C500 use-and-care sheet. Cat Mate is not a product on this site. The lines below are quotations, not a recommendation and not a shopping link.

The sheet uses bowls and a rotating lid. Step 4.1: “Fill the required number of bowls, starting clockwise from ‘1’ (only fill bowl ‘0’ if an immediate meal is required).” “You may set up to 4 meals per day.” The meal in the bowl numbered ‘1’ “will be served at the next programmed meal time.”

Step 4.2: “Insert two pre-frozen ice packs and replace food bowl aligning ‘0’ on food bowl (B1, Fig. 1) with ‘0’ on base unit (D1, Fig. 1).” Then: “The C500 should always be used with its ice-packs unless the surrounding temperature is less than 5°C. (40°F.).” “To freeze the ice-packs before use, place in a freezer for at least 6 hours.”

The wet-food paragraph, quoted and not expanded: “When using your C500 feeder with wet food, ensure that the food comes from a freshly opened can/pack. If the weather is very warm, you are advised not to leave wet food for long periods and may prefer to serve dry food, which has better keeping qualities. If in doubt, please consult the manufacturer of your cats’ wet food.”

Placement: “The C500 feeder should be used indoors or in a garage or outbuilding and should be placed in a cool corner, shaded from sunlight and away from moisture.” Cleaning: “The lid and bowl may be washed in a dishwasher.” The base unit can be wiped with a damp cloth and should not be immersed. A PETKIT hopper manual has none of these parts.

Covered bowls and gravity sets are different jobs

HEAPETS is easy to misread as a wet-food timer because the listing allows wet food. The record, listing checked Oct 11, 2026, says “Dry or wet food (listing advises not leaving wet food inside for extended periods).” The bowl is 0.45 L. One paired collar tag opens the lid. The listing says microchip recognition is not supported. There is no meal clock and no ice pack. It does not portion meals the way the C500’s numbered bowls do.

The Gardner Pet gravity set, listing ASIN B0FVLW7C26 checked Oct 11, 2026, says “Dry food only; the listing warns against wet food.” The reservoir refills the bowl as the level drops. That comparison with a scheduled hopper is in gravity feeder vs automatic cat feeder.

If the routine is wet food on a clock, none of the five rows is the C500-style tray. Once the food is dry kibble inside the size line, hopper and camera choices are in how to choose an automatic cat feeder and the automatic cat feeders shortlist.

Manuals and listings behind this wet-food page

Lines above were read on Oct 28, 2026 from the D4H manual, the D4SH-2 manual, the PETKIT feeder FAQ sheet, and the Cat Mate C500 use-and-care PDF. HEAPETS and Gardner lines are site records of listings checked Oct 11, 2026. Fresh Element Solo’s 12 mm line is its site record, last checked July 17, 2026. No feeder was run for this page.

Washing a hopper is a separate routine in how to clean an automatic cat feeder. For the hopper feeders these PETKIT manuals cover, the answer is dry pet food within the printed size limits. The wet-food design in these documents is a tray with ice packs and a 5°C (40°F) line.

FAQ

What kibble size does the YumShare Solo with Camera manual allow?

The D4H manual for the YumShare Solo with Camera prints two limits: recommended kibble size of dry food ≤12mm (0.47in), and recommended kibble size of freeze-dried food ≤9mm (0.35in). The same booklet tells you not to put anything but dry pet food in the storage container.

Does the Dual-hopper 2 manual allow wet food in either hopper?

No. The D4SH-2 manual uses the same dry-pet-food sentence as the Solo with Camera manual, and it lists recommended kibble size ≤12mm (0.47in) and recommended freeze-dried food size ≤9mm (0.35in). Two hoppers still means two dry foods, or a mix of those dry foods, landing in one stainless steel food bowl.

What ice-pack rule does the Cat Mate C500 sheet print?

The C500 use-and-care sheet says the feeder should always be used with its ice-packs unless the surrounding temperature is less than 5°C. (40°F.). Freeze the ice packs at least 6 hours. For wet food, the sheet says to use a freshly opened can or pack, and it says the lid and bowl may be washed in a dishwasher. This page quotes that sheet as a design example. It is not a product on this site.

Is the HEAPETS RFID bowl a timed wet-food dispenser?

No. The HEAPETS listing checked Oct 11, 2026 describes a sealed lid for dry or wet food and advises against leaving wet food inside for extended periods. The bowl is 0.45 L. The lid opens for one paired collar tag. It does not schedule meals or measure portions.

Does the Gardner Pet gravity feeder listing allow wet food?

No. The Gardner Pet gravity feeder and water dispenser record, from the listing checked Oct 11, 2026, says dry food only and that the listing warns against wet food. It is a reservoir that refills the bowl, not a timed hopper and not an ice-pack tray.
